Water jet cutting with the perfect jet

Water is a soft medium, but it can be transformed into a tool as sharp as a knife when shaped into a razor-thin jet by a nozzle under high pressure. It’s ideal for precise, fine cuts. A differentiation is made between pure water cutting and abrasive cutting here. The advantages are clear: cold cutting, no distortion from heat-related stress, no feathering and no traces of burning. Water jet cutting systems are processes suitable for nearly anymaterial, offering high precision with no thermal loading.

For steel and non-ferrous metals – Simple contours up to a thickness of 20 mm can be cut thermally, using a laser for example. For more complex contours, smaller holes or thicker material, water jet cutting is ideal. Advantages include a lack of edge zone hardening, minimal tool wear and easy core hole creation.

For plastic and composite materials – Trim nozzles with high-precision nozzle rubies are used in running paper machines. Their advantages include a long service life, high production speeds and minimal warping of the paper pulp while cutting.
